The first type of gyms that are common in the Manchester area are commercial gyms. Popular examples examples include The Gym Group and Pure Gym. Commercial gyms prioritise basic gym equipment such as treadmills and rowing machines whilst still having a wide selection of solid weight lifting equipment. However, the main attractions are the cheap costs starting from £13.99 per month also including student memberships, the 24 hour opening times and the amount of gyms across the city.
Manchester has specific weightlifting gyms across the city in abundance. This calibre of gym is frequently owned by an individual and not franchised. Examples in the Manchester area include Flex 'n' Tone (as seen in the image above), The STRENGTH Therapy and M3 Perform. The attraction of these gyms is the highest quality equipment including machines that are very difficult to come by, brands such as Nautilus and Cybex being some of the most well known manufacturers. The aim of these gyms is evidently weightlifting and strength training as opposed to cardio where the ratio of weights to cardio machines is much more in favour of weights. The membership of these gyms comes at a higher cost than a commercial gym for example averaging around £35-£45.
Health Spa gyms are the most luxurious option in the city of Manchester, once again offering a wide variety. Examples include Bannatyne Health Club (as seen in above image), LivingWell Health Club, and many more Whilst having gym facilities they also offer further benefits, such as a saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools and spa treatments all included within a membership. The gym facilities themselves in terms of quality are state of the art technology having around a 50/50 split between cardio machines and weightlifting equipment. The membership price point can vary with some gyms not listing the actual cost, instead allowing you to enquire, however, the average cost of a Health Spa Gym membership in Manchester is around £33-50 a month.
I found GymsInManchester so helpful as, like everyone I was a total beginner and finding the right gym for me proved very difficult until i found this. So condensed and informative at the same time. 5 Stars from me!
Despite being a frequent gym goer for the last 4/5 years, I found it difficult to find a gym that was the right fit for me. After trying multiple different ones across the city it ended up costing me a lot of money and I was a bit stuck. Until I found GymsInManchester who were more than helpful through their website and through contacting them directly for advice. Would definitely recommend.
